Monroe Gorden
Acting ADA Director
Monroe joined the Office of the Vice Chancellor, Student Affairs in February, 2006 as the Chief Administrative Officer. Prior to his UCLA employment, Monroe worked as legal counsel for various law firms and corporations. He received his Bachelor of Art’s Degree from UCLA in 1993, majoring in Political Science with a business emphasis. Monroe then turned his interest to legal advocacy and received his Juris Doctorate degree in 1997 from the Pepperdine University School of Law.
Monroe began his legal career at the law firm of Nordstrom, Steele, Nicolette & Jefferson, as an associate attorney specializing in business litigation. As an associate for Nordstrom, Steele, et.al., he acted as lead attorney in nearly 20 trials, the largest yielding a multi-million dollar settlement against a large health care company. Interested in expanding his business purview, Monroe began working for Tenet Healthcare Company in 1999 as associate General Counsel. In 2001, Monroe became the Manager of Legal Affairs for RxSolutions, Inc., a pharmacy benefits manager. In this role Monroe was responsible for legal and business administration for several corporate services, including the review and approval of all corporate contracting.
As Chief Administrative Officer, Monroe operates as the chief budgetary officer for Student Affairs, and is responsible for the administrative components of the Office of the Vice Chancellor, including financial planning, human recourses, facility and space management, technology services, staff development, marketing and emergency planning.
